We've heard some grumbling about the Activation process
built into Photoshop CS2. For example, reader Adam Fields sent us a link to his Open Letter to Adobe in which he lambasts
the Activation system as a failure. We're interested in your opinion on the Activation system. Vote yea or nay on the
Photoshop CS2 Activation feature in the comments below, including at least one reason for your vote.

(Page 3)42. Problem with activation for me goes beyond the typical comments, which I mostly agree with, but my gripe is that Adobe assumes I have Internet connectivity!!
In my case I have too many other expenses to have a personal Internet connection, in some less developed countries it is still expensive to have an account with an ISP and to lease a landline (that is why I use a mobile phone only!) Many people similarly still have to consider the cost of connectivity. But I guess people like me are the lowest denominator and Adobe reckons we are the surplus they can afford to ignore…I have used Photoshop in particular for at least 10 Years and have sworn by it, and recommended it to companies I have worked with, this is the first time though that I am considering emerging competitors like Gimp and will work the two in parallel and not upgrade my version and wait to see how things develop from here.

43. I installed on PC and laptop. No problems. I then deactivated PC and installed on new PC and it worked SEAMLESSLY. I was totally suprised after reading the backlashes...

44. The whole activation thing just sucks, it's retarded and shouldn't be there. That's what I say.

45. Activation is a cheapscate copout. If Adobe was really interested in protecting their software they should go to a lisence management system like Maya or Fusion or other such programs use. Either with a physical dongle or a "Lisence server" on one machine. These are the best (but still defeatable) rights management schemes on the planet. By "Best" I mean they inforce the intent of the lisence with the least undue burden on the legitamate user. The difference is Adobe would have to PAY to use them. They are too cheep for that, so they just hobble the honest user while the pirates still run free.

41. I was considering upgrading CS to CS2 but after reading all these comments (and many more elsewhere), I think I'll wait for the next version. Historically, it seems, every other version has benn a dog in some way (I've used it from the beginning) so I started skipping a version since v4. The only other solution around this badly thought out and implemented activation process, would be to buy it legit then find a crack to make it work. Very backwards in going forwards. Ditto above... NAY
