I'll admit that I was bummed when I first learned that the File Browser, introduced in Photoshop 7, was to be
discontinued in Photoshop CS2. Now that I've gotten used to Adobe Bridge, I actually prefer Bridge to the old File
Browser. In case you haven't heard, Bridge is the new image organizer that works not only with Photoshop, but across
the suite of CS2 programs.
One use for Bridge is to review and rank photos as soon as you import them from your digital camera using the Bridge
slide show and star ranking system. Select the images to review by Control+clicking (Win) or Command+clicking (Mac)
thumbnails on the right side of Bridge. Choose View>Slide Show to begin a slide show of the selected images. You can
quickly rank each image with one to five stars as the slide show plays. Press the period key one or more times to add
stars to the image on the screen. Press the comma key one or more times to remove stars. When you're done, press Escape
to exit the slide show.
Back in Bridge, you'll see the star rankings under each thumbnail. You can refine your initial rankings by selecting a
thumbnail and toggling a star ranking on or off from the Label menu at the top of the screen. To view only those images
with a ranking of one star or more, press Control+Alt+1 (Win) or Command+Option+1 (Mac). To see images with a ranking
of two stars or more, press Control+Alt+2 or Command+Alt+2 (Mac), and so on. If you like to organize your photos by
folder, click the Create New Folder icon and drag images into folders from within Bridge.
