Alright boys and girls. Other sites pop this situation from time to time, and now it's our turn: you're at the helm
of Adobe. Top dog. You want that guy who made the coffee weak and too cold fired? Done.
Now for bigger things: Photoshop. Yep, the whole program. What's wrong and what's missing? Does a feature need an
upgrade? Is a filter's UI driving you insane? Are they still doing something all wrong, even in CS2? If you have
something to say, we want to hear about it.
Why? Good Monday morning conversation. Besides, sometimes I get stuck in that rut where I start wondering if there are
any places for an app as far reaching as Photoshop to actually improve. Unfortunately you won't get any R&D credit
from Adobe, but maybe it'll get the gears grinding and make up for that bad coffee.
You're in charge - What would you change about Photoshop

(Page 1)2. Bring back the right click toolbox from Photoshop 3.0
You mac users wouldn't know about it (and that's why it was removed in later versions) but it was the most useful thing in the world. You had the commands window on your right click fully costumizable with any tools you regurarly use

3. I have always wanted a brush/shapes visual manager similar to the file browser. Or even a small standalone app that lets me open brush files and look at them WITHOUT having to load up photoshop and import them. I'm sorry, but a 128 x 128 thumbnail of a brush isn't very visible on a 1280 x 1024 or higher screen.
4. Oh so many thoughts, so little time. I've been using Photoshop since vesion 2.0. Here are just a few off the top of my head...
Non-destructive filters - Make all filters work like effects layers, or at the very least, make essential filters this way
Better Smart Objects handling - Basic transforms on Smart Objects are easily edited, but if you start skewing and warping, you're screwed; also what's the point of using Smart Objects if you can't use simple filters like Sharpen on them without rasterizing?
Non-linear History - It would be useful sometimes to be able to pick and choose the edits you've done to your document
Object-oriented model - This idea comes from After Effects but I think it could be very useful: Photoshop documents are projects that contain comps (objects) of varying sizes and you're able to nest these comps within each other and apply transformations/filters/etc. on them. A lot of this functionality is already there with Groups, but the non-destructive nature of this model is the most appealing.
Adobe, please feel free to steal these ideas. :)

5. Guidelines a l?llustrator+:
• Rotatable
• They should exist on a virtual layers that can be turned on and off independently. Each virtual layer's guidelines would be any color you choose.
• Paths can be converted to guidelines.
• Guidelines may be saved and transferred along with a .psd file to Illustrator and InDesign.
Pen/Path Tools:
• There is not one good gall dang reason why they shouldn't work EXACTLY the same way they do in Illustrator. Period.
Toolbox:
• Configurable to 1 column or 1 row. Tear offs.
Resizable Filter dialogues.
EVERY numerical entry field in the entire application ought to be addressable by the up & down arrow keys.
Move Tool:
• Units of measurement for incremental nudges out to be configurable, and there needs to be more than one muliplier/modifier (i.e.: SHIFT = 10x; SHIFT + Command= 50x...)
Snapshot palette needs an independent scroller.
Those will do for starters.

6. Make filters work like they do in After Effects.

7. I'd like to see the ability to add keyboard shortcuts for custom tool presets - if there's a way to do that, it's very well hidden.
I'd like to see one screen that shows what every key/combination actually does given the current settings.
Also, I'd like to see the ability to stack actions in the image processor - why is this limited to just one action?

11. Wow. Some good comments here, and some that surprise me.
Adobe adds in abilities that are most requested by their customer base. However, due to the complexities of some of these, they can only be added in with a limited ability. Yet people love to jump all over Adobe for the way the new capabilities work. Where is the patience?
Mixing Vector into a Paint program is not easy, especially when trying to retain as much undo as possible. Adding 3-d is also not so easy, but they are getting there. It takes time.
When Adobe adds ina new ability, it needs to be able to stay compatible with their other applications. And individual applications are different than their Suite's, so they have it doubled.
Otherwise, non destuctive filtering would have been in there long ago. So would the 3d capabilities etc.

12. I'm sure not everyone would agree with me but I think Photoshop should not try to be an all inclusive program. What I would like to see is both a Photoshop Suite and seperate programs that cater to specialties such as a version just for photography, one for web designers. Now your saying "but it's already that way!" well I'm not finished. I think Adobe could create a version for painters and illustrators if they would create a stronger brush engine much like Painter and add some 3D capabilities for the 3D artists as well and lastly if they would combine more photoshop's pixel and Illustrator's vector capabilities similar but much better than Microsoft's Acrylic they could make a killer graphic design package instead of bouncing between Illustrator and Photoshop to achieve the same thing.
I could see these programs combined in a suite package as well as sold seperatly much like they already do in their Creative Suite.

13. there are a bunch but i can only think of a few right now..
-- painter style brush engine
-- native export to Flash .fla with layers intacted like the psd2fla plug-in (with the merger this should be coming)
-- Autosave
thats all for now

14. I'd like to see Adobe Bridge and Raw Convertor enhanced so that for most photography needs, Photoshop is unnecessary except for the batch processing by built-in scripts. I want to keep the concept of an unaltered image (RAW file) and a series of actions to modify it (sidecar file), and expand greatly upon that.
In particular:
1. Multiple side car files so that you could have different processing steps applied to the same image, especially needed for multiple crop sizes, color vs b/w, etc.
2. Expand the B/W conversion options beyond a desaturation tool
3. Add toning controls, ie., sepia, black/brown, silver, etc.
4. wide angle lens distortion correction
5. healing brush
6. red eye correction
Again, I don't want to go into PS to do it and save a giant PSD for every raw file. Just a raw file and 1+ sidecar files that specify the modifications, then I run it through a batch processor.
Enhance the "SAVE AS JPEG" so that I can strip out the embedded icon, EXIF data, etc. if I want.
Make smart sharpen an adjustment layer action.
Allow me to set the defaults for raw file previews, rather than auto-exposure, brightness, shadow, and contrast.
More templates for web galleries, and more customization options. Especially more flash templates.

Please, PLEASE, get rid of floating toolbars! OMG they are CRAP! ¡PLEASE allow us to dock toolbars without them going over the top of the work area!!! I know there are often lots of toolbars open but there really needs to be some organisation for them. Try something like the tabs arrangement in the new version of Microsoft Word or current versions of Maya. Although most people would find that sort of change intrusive, once they have tried it they'll never turn back!

16. DEFINITELY second the suggestion multiple sidecar files for different raw conversion settings from the same image. That would be extremely helpful.

18. Hey folks--thanks for all the feedback. It's great food for thought as we plan the future of Photoshop, Bridge, and the Creative Suite. A couple replies off the cuff:
-- Good idea about implementing a more non-destructive object system a la After Effects. Smart Objects in CS2 are a step on that path.
-- Speaking of paths, yeah, we know about the subtle differences in the pen tools across the Suite. Of course, if we change PS to match AI, or AI to match PS, we'll inevitably make some group spitting mad. And if we add preferences, we'll get slagged for making things more complex (and harder to test, meaning more prone to bugs). That's not to say we can't do it, but these are the issues we always have to consider.
-- Better brushing would be sweet, agreed.
-- I think "go pairates!" nicely sums up the essence of that savvy bunch. ;-)
-- Keep those cards and letters coming!

19. A few minor things I'd like to see:
- A new "custom" toolbox that I could fill up with icons for my favourite menu items (and some ability to organize them in groups and/or by colour). That would save me rooting around in the menus or moving my hands to the keyboard to use keyboard shortcuts.
- Tear-off tools like in Illustrator (after all, if they're both part of the Creative Suite, shouldn't the tool pallettes work the same?)
- The ability to select a cursor colour. I work mostly with black & white images, and I lose the cursor a lot!
- The ability to add "if then" conditions to an action. I'd like to be able to use the same action to process both portrait and landscape images. I think I can do this with a script, but scripting is way more complicated than I want to get.
- Compression on 16-bit PSD files. My hard drive is bursting at the seams and I'm going through DVD's like there's no tomorrow!

20. I wish Photoshop would track digital tablets (Wacom) better. Using Painter or Alias Sketchbook, the tablet is WAY more responsive and super-fluid. Photoshop has a laggy feel and the strokes come out a little choppy and angular (even with smoothing turned on, its noticeable when compared to the other apps). I know its not my system because my home computers are very powerful and this happens on all my artist friends' machines as well (similar complaints from them). I wish the tracking was improved because I wouldn't have a need to sketch in other apps - I'd really like to remain in Photoshop.

1. Something small and minor... allow animated gifs to be opened in Photoshop. We can create them now, so why not open them to edit?
Having to open up Image Ready just to do one little thing gets very annoying.
