Alright boys and girls. Other sites pop this situation from time to time, and now it's our turn: you're at the helm
of Adobe. Top dog. You want that guy who made the coffee weak and too cold fired? Done.
Now for bigger things: Photoshop. Yep, the whole program. What's wrong and what's missing? Does a feature need an
upgrade? Is a filter's UI driving you insane? Are they still doing something all wrong, even in CS2? If you have
something to say, we want to hear about it.
Why? Good Monday morning conversation. Besides, sometimes I get stuck in that rut where I start wondering if there are
any places for an app as far reaching as Photoshop to actually improve. Unfortunately you won't get any R&D credit
from Adobe, but maybe it'll get the gears grinding and make up for that bad coffee.
You're in charge - What would you change about Photoshop

(Page 2)22. Another thing I ran into today. A mode for the cursor where the crosshair hands extend to the limits of the photo. I know you can basically use the rulers but sometimes I just wish I could use something like this instead

23. A simple thing I would love to see is a histogram in the Bridge, so I don't have to open pictures to verify exposure etc. Could be made as another page to go alongside the EXIF info and whatnot.

24. There are pieces of Bridge, Camera Importer, Image Processor, and DNG Converter that are all very good for batch processing. But it needs to be better. I'd like to use DNG Converter for ingesting images from my memory cards; but it doesn't have nearly good enough options for renaming the files.
I'd like to be able to give just the directory of my memory cards, convert them all to DNG, rename them based on EXIF, apply XMP templates, and then pre-genderate Bridge cache files. Then go through ACR like we do today for batch processing.
Also, Bridge needs to get a lot faster at caching images and loading caches.
Oh and official Adobe Automator actions should be included with PS

25. This is a real small part of Photoshop, but it's always bugged me.
When you press Ctrl+F (Apple Click+F), and you are able to view outside of the pallet, there isn't any maximize/minimize boxes. Sometimes it shows up, but more often, it doesnt. It really annoys me to press Ctrl+F to get the boxes back.... very small I know, but very annoying.

26. How about some improvements to the activation system? Suggestions:
1. Build in support for a secret "sunset" activation code which works for all serial numbers, that you can release after some number of years go by, so the program will still be usable if the current activation support infrastructure goes away. I'd like to be able to count on having this great software available for a long time, and I know I'll end up reinstalling it many times as drives crash or I get new computers. I'm afraid to throw out my Photoshop 7.0 cds for this reason. You could pass the code to a trusted third party and guarantee it's release in some time frame.
2. Increase the allowed install number from 2 to at least three. Many pros have more than two computers.
3. Best of all, just eliminate activation. It's not very effective anyway, and it harms your company's good public image. Let me emphasize: it's *really annoying* !!! And I'm not the only one who finds it irritating. This was addressed recently in a strongly negative poll on this blog, see the following entry:

27. Two more comments:
1. How about better support for long filenames in Bridge's thumbnail view? I use long names a lot and find it impossible to navigate with Bridge because the names are cut off.
2. I suggest giving more visibility to the new jpeg 2000 format. You provide a plugin but it's hidden away where only converts like me will dig it out. Most people haven't yet noticed that it's a *huge* improvement over other file formats, equal quality with 3 to 5 times smaller file size - not a minor improvement. And many other benefits too. It's the future, let it shine!

28. I come calling for a feature from the land of Television.
When creating Alpha channels for still images, Photoshop does not create the alpha channels for layer styles unless you create a new empty layer, then select it and the layer with "styles" applied, then merge them together.
Ideally there would be a menu item to "Render all layer styles" 9or similar) without requiring the 4 step creation that we have to use now.

29. Fix the branding! Seriously, a minor complaint, but I thought the CS icons and branding (ie splash screen) were bad... they were outdone in just about every way by the way the CS2 suite is branded. I don't know which marketing genius came up with the new style, but looking at those icons on my desktop literally makes me feel physically ill, especially when compared with the pre-CS versions. I also don't see how a feather and a flower are any more applicable to the apps than an eye and the iconic Venus. Please make the branding more palatable!

30. More access to math for the expert user. I should be able to divide the RGB of an image by its alpha channel without being asked, "what would you want to do that for?"
Clearer interaction of layering and blend modes -- maybe node tree based, like Shake. Maybe folders should act like parentheses in arithmetic expressions, so I could screen A over B, throw that into a folder, then multiply the "results" of that folder by another folder, then throw THAT in a folder and linear dodge that with another folder. Something like that, only with a way to make all the folder drilling easy.
Here's my Photoshop workflow for layering premultiplied 3D CG over a bg in photoshop without all the usual Adobe Alpha channel Agita:
http://www.digitalartform.com/archives/2005/10/compositing_pre.html
Photoshop needs to understand the concept of the alpha channel as a HOLDBACK MATTE, not simply its rigidly enforced concept of the alpha channel as a CLIPPING CHANNEL.

31. We need definitely a support for linked files. This would be useful especially working with multiple web layouts. Once you make a change to the basic layout you have to change all the layouts. With linked files on the back this would be unnecessary. Useful for other purpouses too.
Second is text/paragraph styles. Again useful when working with web design. Changing one style would change all the similar elements, like in InDesign. Maybe even a support for exporting these into CSS to be used with GoLive.
Third but not least. Search and replace. For text, text styles and layerstyles etc. This is a feature that lacks power in CS. I'm not sure what is the situation with CS2, but hey, look at the feature in Freehand - now that you have opportunity better than ever. ;)

34. I would love to see an option to save the history info in a psd file.
That way you can save a work in progress, reload it later and be able to undo steps that you previously took

35. 2manyusernames: You actually can do this. I don't know how far back in the family tree this appeared, but I know at least Photoshop 7 could do it. Open up Photoshop's General preferences window and there should be an un-checked option called "History Log" (it isn't enabled by default). You have a few options as to whether the history is saved IN the psd file, to an external file, which pieces of history you save, etc. Open up Photoshop's help and search for "History Log" for more information. Hope this helps!

36. Adobe Photoshop already picks up so much digital information, particularly about colors. As a science researcher, I'd be delighted to be able to quantify it. Relative areas measured in pixels, amount of red on a 256 scale ... could these features be added?

37. Guides as layers, as in Illustrator. As it is, it's all or nothing — I either have to turn on all 50 guides, or none. I'd like to only view the ones I need at any particular time. I'd like to be able to turn on and off individual guides, and groups some guides into a layer group. Illustrator and Photoshop are part of the same "Creative Suite," and consequently Photoshop should offer the same functionality as Illustrator.

38. I would like to be able to edit Actions after they have been created so I can make adjustments.

39. Very simple: allow the toolbox and pallettes to be docked-especially the toolbox. It's so obvious there is really no need to say more...
Posted at 6:36AM on Dec 19th 2005 by Richard Chalmers
40. I agree with many of the other posts here on interface usability: Illustrator CS2 allows the main toolbox to become a one-collumn toolbar and palletes can be docked as tabs on the edge of the screen... what is keeping this functionality out of Photoshop? Also, I realize it's very difficult for Photoshop to balance being a useful, manageable tool and trying to be the all-in-one graphics killer app, but I think it could pull it off just by polishing up some of the features it already has. For example, there are so many features that are already beyond the duty of a raster editor but could really be better with a little polish- guidelines, smart objects, font management, powerful brush control, and non-destructive filters and editing are all making some type of appearance but could use some work. At any rate, Photoshop is still the best out there, but they need to keep improving to stay there.

21. I would like to see the ability to print selected files directly from Bridge. (Colour managed batch printing.)
How about saved curves or levels in a drop down box in the curves/levels dialog, instead of opening and browsing for them. There could be an option to have a curve/level added to the drop down or not when it is saved.
A "library" pallette of saved curves, layers, levels, filter combinations, Text etc.. that could be dragged and dropped onto the active image.
There could be an option to take an active layer in a document and add it to this library. Maybe have this library in Bridge as well to quickly drag and drop onto multiple selected files.
