I've fortunately stumbled across a great Sitepoint article that gets fairly in-depth on
five techniques for background masking/object
extracting. Tools and techniques covered include: the magic eraser tool, background eraser tool, extract command,
quick mask mode for selecting and one of my long-time favorites: the every-elusive pen tool. No matter which way you've
been taught to perform work like this, I'm sure there's something educational for you; my eye-opener was the extract
command. I'm sure a few of you are gasping right now, but I've been brought up using combinations of the quick mask and
pen tool for my selections.
